HOUSE ON MOUND, SALEM, TAMIL NADU (ongoing)

House on Mound is a new construction G+1+terrace structure which sits atop a naturally formed boulder on site. The site in Salem is a rocky terrain with natural rock formation that is indigenous to Salem, Tamil Nadu. The clients area family five +1 (their furry companion).

Our imperative was to design the interior for the house which came with its stretches of windows and spaces that were mounted on top of one another at different heights. We started by understanding the properties of the natural rocks, and borrowing features such as texture, solidity, earthen pastel and incorporating them in the form of wall finishes, furniture, visual weight across spaces.

The Interiors is a calm oasis that blends with the outside with a distinct character of its own. There is a contrast between the spacial voids and the tangibles within the space. Natural materials have been used but in a fresh contemporary sense.
